The horse has always been one of the most beloved animals in Baltic culture. Not only he was the best worker for farmers, but also the most faithful friend of a warrior. There are so many songs about that I couldn’t even count. My friends who sing the old war songs as ‘Ugniavijas’ band would have a lot to say about the topic, I expect.

So one of my first pieces for my Baltic mythology art print series was ‘The horse’. I stylized the shape of the horse that was widely used in old jewelry and combined it with the big swastika from the snake heads. This symbol is very popular, it comes from the oldest times. It symbolizes sun and the thunder god Perkunas. You can find different types of swastikas in textile and architecture ornaments, as well as in jewelry and weapons. The snake heads is a specific Baltic thing. It symbolizes grass snakes, which were considered to be sacred. This cult came from paleolithic period. People used to keep grass snakes at home at feed them milk.

The flower at the bottom is similar to the ones that were painted on the women chests with their hand made fabrics and closes that used to be taken to a new home after marriage.

I made a lot of different options of how to use this piece in my upcoming offer. One of them will be to download it and print it with your local or home printer and use it for any kind of decoration you choose.
